“The Watchmaker’s Lesson: A Tale of Time and Meaning”

“The Secret of Time”

In a small country village lived an old watchmaker named Elio. His shop, located in the center of the square, was famous not only for the watches he repaired but also for his largest clock, hanging above the store. It was a masterpiece of precision, with delicate gears and unparalleled beauty. Every hour, its hands played a melody that enchanted the entire village. Elio was known for his great skill, but also for one peculiar habit: every morning, just before dawn, he would sit in front of the clock with a small silver key and turn a tiny hidden mechanism inside it. No one knew what it was for, but the old watchmaker did it every day without ever missing a single turn. One day, a curious young man named Marco arrived in the village.

Fascinated by the perfection of the clock and the stories circulating about the old watchmaker, he decided to visit him. “Why do you wake up every morning at dawn to turn that key?” Marco asked with genuine interest. Elio, smiling beneath his white beard, replied, “It’s not just for the clock. You see, the key isn’t necessary to keep it running; it could go on for months without being touched. It’s for myself.” Marco looked at him, confused. “I don’t understand.” Elio rose from his chair and, with a slow gesture, took out a small pocket watch, different from all the others. “The key represents my time, not the time I measure on the clocks, but the time I dedicate to what truly matters. Every morning, I remind myself of this truth: the time I have is not infinite. Each turn of the key is an act of awareness, a promise that I won’t let my days slip by without truly living them.” Marco pondered those words. He was young and had never thought about time in that way. To him, it had always been something abstract, something that seemed infinite until he figured out what to do with it. But Elio, with his years of wisdom, was showing him another way to see it. year passed, and when Elio finally passed away, his shop was closed, but the clock continued to chime every hour, with that melody that had accompanied the village for so long. Marco, now grown, decided to reopen the shop and take care of the clock. Every morning, before dawn, he too would take the small silver key and, like Elio, turn that hidden mechanism, reminding himself to live each day with awareness.

Elio’s lesson wasn’t about how to build a perfect clock, but about how to live meaningful time. And so, in the village, the hands of the clock kept turning, not just to mark the hours but to remind everyone that true time isn’t measured by gears, but by how we choose to spend it.]

  • Ciao ragazzi,
    Forza ragazzi!
