It was the first time Elisa had slept in that hotel outside the city.It was raining heavily and the navigator had taken her there after the road to her hotel had been closed.The building was old, quiet and seemed deserted, but the receptionist gave her the keys to room 9 saying only: ‘Don’t open if you hear knocking.’Elisa laughed nervously thinking it was a joke, but when she arrived at the room she found the door ajar.Inside it was darker than normal, she felt watched, but ignored the feeling, turned on the light and lay down on the bed.At midnight, three sharp knocks were heard on the other side of the door.
