An Old Secret
Eleonore was a 25-year-old musician. She was quite disoriented lately because she had to write the songs for her first album, but she couldn’t find the right inspiration. One day, she receives a letter that changes everything. Her grandmother, who she had not seen for years, had give her an old house in the countryside. It was a large house, with a garden that was neglected and full of weeds, but Eleonore sensed that there was something special about the place.
One morning she arrived at the house, she entered the garden and noticed an apple tree, with many apples still small, green, but strong. They almost seemed to appear out of nowhere. Eleonore approached and looked carefully: the leaves of the tree seemed to be shining under the sun. The house was filled with dust, as if time had frozen in place. Inside, the living room was spacious and quiet, but in the middle of all that silence was a grand piano, old and a little damaged. Eleonore approached the piano, but didn’t touch it. She sat down next to it, looking out the window, trying to figure out what she was looking for. The house seemed to be breathing, but the sound of her music couldn’t come out, as if something was holding her back. Outside, the garden seemed a bit neglected. Weeds covered almost the entire area, but the apple tree was still there, solid and strong. Suddenly, while walking through the weeds, Eleonore saw a tin box, hidden in the grass. She curiously bent down to get it and to open it. Inside, there was an old, rusty key and a letter, which was difficult to read because it was old and the time had consumed the words. Eleonore took the letter carefully the words were confusing, but she could tell they were talking about a “hidden secret” before the trees last bloomed. She didn’t know what it meant, but she felt that phrase was important and the key, then, seemed to belong to something ancient, something that had to be found.
