The king of battlefield

A Heavy Soul

Arden‍‌‍‍‌ had a normal and happy life when he was a child. He lived in a small village with his mother, his father, and his little brothers. He loved running outside, helping his dad, and listening to his mom’s stories before bed. He thought nothing bad would ever happen to them.

But the war between the Kingdom of Vaelion and the Empire of Drakmor reached their village one day, and everything changed.

The sky filled with smoke, and soldiers marched toward the houses. Arden saw his father grab an old knife and run to help the other villagers fight.

His father never came back.

Then soldiers broke into the houses. Arden saw his mother being dragged away, screaming his name. His little brothers were taken too, crying and reaching for him. Arden ran as fast as he could. He didn’t stop.

He survived, but everyone he loved was gone.

From that moment, Arden decided he wanted revenge.

He trained every day, from morning to night. He swung sticks, then real swords. He pushed himself until he couldn’t even stand anymore. And when he finally turned sixteen, he joined the army.He didn’t care about fear or pain. He only cared about becoming strong enough to destroy Drakmor.

Years passed, and he became one of the strongest soldiers on the battlefield. People started calling him the King of the Battlefield, even though he never wanted that name. It didn’t make him proud. It didn’t make him happy.

What people didn’t know was that every night Arden had nightmares.

He didn’t dream of his family. He dreamed of the people he killed.

In his sleep, they stood around him, silent, staring at him with empty eyes. Sometimes they whispered his name. Sometimes they just watched. Arden always woke up sweating, feeling like he couldn’t breathe. He told himself it didn’t matter, that it was the price of revenge… but he knew it was eating him alive.

Then came the most important battle of the war. Everyone said this fight would decide the future of Vaelion and Drakmor. Arden was at the front, leading the charge. Swords clashed, arrows flew, people screamed—but in the middle of all that chaos, something inside him broke.

He suddenly stopped fighting. His hand shook. His mind filled with thoughts he had tried to ignore for years.

Why am I still doing this?Would my parents want this life for me?Is revenge even worth anything now?

He realized that all this time, he wasn’t fighting for them anymore. He was fighting because war was the only thing he had left.

But it was too late to walk away.Too many people depended on him.Too many counted on his strength.

Arden lifted his sword again, even though his heart felt heavier than ever. And as he walked back into battle, he felt the souls of those he had killed following him like shadows.

They would always follow him. They would always whisper.Because no matter how strong he became…

his soul would always carry the weight of the ‍‌‍‍‌war.
