In the beginning
The phone is ringing, doing noises in the empty office.
“Detective Holmes, who’s that?”
“It’s me, Nora. You should come here near Baker Street. We’re all there and no one undersands what happened, we need your help”
“I’m on my way”
I close my folder with all my solved cases, and go with a taxi to Baker Street. My assistant Nora is waiting for me, she works on the forensics, she’s pretty good on her work but not as good as me. She has got short, black, wavy hair, she’s tall and skinny, and always dressed as a model.
She’s 47 years old, but you wouldn’t tell it from the way she thinks, and that’s not a compliment.
The crime scene is horrendous, the victim is Miguel, the best judge in all London.
He was 55 years old, married since he was 23 with a very good doctor, Vanessa Bridge. She’s very famous here in London, everybody loves her.
They have two children: Rose and Jonathan, they’re twins so they’re both 15 years old.
They’re very polite and smart children, just like someone will expect from two parents like them.
Talking about the case, somebody stabbed Miguel with a big knife, a kitchen knife, in his neck. There’s blood all over the street, and the journalists are curious.
“Holmes, here you are!” I turn around and see Nora waving at me. She’s a bit too happy for being in a crime scene…
“Yeah…” I say, looking at her for a moment, after that I stare again the dead body:
“He was attacked by an angry person…It wasn’t casual. I suppose Miguel was going back home, the killer was probably following him, and then, from behind he stabbed him. In the end, the killer ran, and we’ve got some footprints here, near the body” I talk again, while walking near the cadaver.
Nora was listening to me with a scared stare, like I couldn’t see her.
“What’s up?” I ask, getting near to her.
“Nothing, it’s just…terrible. He was handling my divorce case, he seemed a very good person.”
“Of course he was. He was the best judge and lawyer of all London, a great dad and husband… why would somebody kill him?”
“How could I know!” She answered me with a strange tone.
If she talks like this we’re only going to waste time: “You know what? I don’t need your help right now, the forensics needs you.”
I tell her, wishing she would leave me alone with my thoughts.
Something isn’t right, she looks…guilty.
“Thomas! How is it going? What about if we go eat something, and you stop working for a bit?” This is Carl, who is calling me.
He’s an old man, that sometimes is usuful for the team, he thinks that offering me a meal will give him some secret information about cases. He works on the police, that’s not a bad thing but usually it’s always the forensic or detectives as me that do all the work. Police always calls detectives when they don’t know where to start for solving a case…
“Thank you Carl, but I’m going home. Why don’t you stay with Miguel’s wife? She and her children need some support right now.”
He smiled at me.
“I really need to go home…” I think while waiting the taxi.
“Need help now? I have finished with my forensic colleagues” It’s Nora again. She says that she has finished, but I have the feeling she only was staring how I work from behind, like it’s the first time we work together.
“No, Nora, I’m going home now, thanks. See you tomorrow?”
“Oh, sure”
I leave the crime scene and I go near the street, waiting for a taxi. Obviously I’m not going home, I’m going to my office I just didn’t wanted to stay at the crime scene with all those noises and journalists looking.
But I’ve really saw enough for today…something is off and I need to discover what.
I’m Sherlock Holmes’ great-great nephew or something like that, I’m sure I’m going to find out what is it.
I wish…
Who would you like to be the killer?
- Vanessa Bridge, Miguel's wife (50%)
- Carl, the old man who works for the police (25%)
- Nora, Thomas' assistant (25%)

Hello guys, very good work, just few corrections on your sentences:
“The phone making noises not doing noises”
“You wouldn’t tell from the way she act” is more correct in English
“The best judge in the whole London” not “all London”
“A big knife, a kitchen knife” can be simplified with just “A big kitchen knife”
“I stare again at the dead body”
“cadaver” -> “corpse”
“scared look” may be better in this contest.
“Wasn’t casual” , casual in English refer to a way of dressing so would be better “Didn’t happen randomly”
“He works with the police” not “on the police”
“Where to start solving a case” the for is not correct.
“I’ve really seen enough” or “I saw enough” , together are not correct.
Bravi ragazzi, continuate cosi’
